An Update on Beachbody’s ADA endorsement
and Project You Type II!
This information was provided by Linda York – Project Manager for Project You – Type II
NOTE: This news is for informational purposes only and should not be used as content for web or direct marketing.
Beachbody decided in the Fall of 2007 that an important part of attacking the obesity epidemic was to create a program for the 21 million people in this country diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and in addition, use the program to target the over 58 million people who have not been diagnosed yet but are considered pre diabetic.
One of Beachbody’s most respected trainers, Kathy Smith, had a similar idea and the decision was made to take her award winning exercise program (which is for people of different fitness levels), and create a series of simple, easy to use tools that would help people understand how to eat correctly for type 2, plan meals, give a series of recipes and meal planning combo cards that would make it easy to get started on a weight loss program that was healthy and fit the diabetic lifestyle. In addition, we undertook to overhaul the directions for exercise for diabetics so that the issues that had to be taken into account when doing exercise were incorporated as well.
When the decision to move forward with this project was made, we contacted the ADA to propose that we become partners in educating people, providing them a program to lose weight, exercise and adopt a healthy lifestyle, and to raise money and awareness for the ADA through donating a percentage of the sales of this new product to them. The ADA was excited about our proposal. The importance of creating a product that met their exacting guidelines was an important consideration as we went forward with creating the content.
Working with Certified Diabetes Instructors (headed by Marlisa Brown) the eating and exercise content has been developed in accordance with the ADA guidelines and will be sent to Nancy Stinson-Harris at the ADA for their final review. We have completed an agreement with one of the largest chapters of the ADA in Los Angeles to be a sponsor of the LA walk in October, and received the ADA support, acknowledgment and endorsement as a partner.
The walks are the biggest fundraisers the ADA sponsors across the country and they are open to any coach who wants to participate alone or by creating teams of walkers.
The due date for “Kathy Smith’s project: You Type 2″ is to make it available in June (probably mid-June). We will proudly put the ADA seal on our work, and an official notification will be sent out from the national office of the ADA in Washington about the availability of this exciting new product.
So the order of events will be final review by the ADA of the project components, manufacturing of the product, availability of coach education material, launch on the BB and TBB websites.
Please feel free to direct any questions you have to me, and I will be checking with Jane Warner, the President of the ADA in Los Angeles to provide more information. She will also be creating a training program that will available to all coaches on the best way to organize the walks.
One last thing, we have met with Senator Barbara Boxer’s representative, because she has been very involved in sponsoring initiatives in Congress to address the diabetes epidemic, and we expect a letter of commendation from her for the work we are doing with the ADA and the programs that are created at Beachbody that promote and teach people how to have a healthy lifestyle.
Just an exciting note, the product we are creating is unique in the marketplace. We have a way of creating meals, the Combo Card System that provides people with a deck of cards that have breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. All you have to do is pick any card from each meal and 2-3 snacks and who have a complete day of healthy eating that keeps your carb level even all day long and results in curbing your appetite, increasing your energy and keeping you on track with good diabetic care.
